Frank Warner Angel

In 1878, Frank W. Angel was appointed as a Special Agent to conduct an investigation in New Mexico Territory. The objective was to investigate the murder of John Henry Tunstall, corruption by government officials, and violence in Lincoln County. Angel went above and beyond in his investigation and even interviewed Billy the Kid. On October 3, 1878, after conducting a thorough investigation, Angel submitted a detailed 395-page handwritten report to the Attorney General. This report resulted in the removal of two officials from their positions. You can now obtain a copy of most of the report in The Frank W. Angel Report on the Death of John H. Tunstall, by David G. Thomas. We will provide additional information on this shortly, so please stay tuned.
