Pecos Bob

Ameredith Olinger (Bob) was born in Carroll county, Indiana at Delphi in the latter months of 1850. Bob was the second born of three siblings; parents William C. Olinger and Rebecca Robinson-Stafford gave birth to him. His elder brother was John Wallace Olinger and younger sister was Rose Anna Olinger. Rebecca’s family was the founder of the town of Delphi.
By the age of 10, Bob and his family had moved to Mound City, Kansas. Within five years, William, Bob’s father, passed away, resulting in Rebecca moving the family to Bourbon, Kansas, where they resided with family. Bob, at the age of 25, stood at six feet tall and weighed approximately 240 pounds. He had long hair and dark eyes, and a red complexion. His personality was notorious for being brutal and sadistic, along with his bullying and conceited demeanor. However, his unkempt hair and leather fringe buckskin jacket exhibited self-assurance.
Following Robert Olinger’s death at the hands of Billy the Kid, his mother made the following statement,
“Bob was a murderer from his cradle, and if there is a hell, I know he is there.”
